Tired of surprise price hikes. Tired of cloud-only lockups. Tired of software that treats small businesses like ATMs.
Like you, we watched accounting software prices climb year after year. We saw "introductory" rates that doubled. We saw features locked behind premium tiers. We saw businesses held hostage by cloud-only software - pay forever to access YOUR financial data, or lose it.
We asked ourselves: why does it have to be this way?
So we built Kantivo. Professional accounting software with a radical idea: what if we just charged a fair price and didn't raise it?
That's where the 12-year price lock came from. Not a marketing gimmick - a genuine belief that predictable pricing helps businesses budget better. That honest pricing builds trust. That we should earn your business every year, not trap you into it.
We're a small team of developers and accountants who believe software companies should be honest about pricing, respect your data ownership, and deliver professional features at fair prices.
That's what Kantivo is about.
Kantivo comes from one person who got tired of watching his tools get worse and pricier.
A lifelong entrepreneur, now 52, who spent thirty years wishing for accounting software like this — so he finally built it, and still runs his own books on it every week.
Ken has been building businesses his whole life. It began with a construction company. Next came a real estate investing group he founded — the Beckwitt Real Estate Method — which reached more than 100 partners. He's now a partner in a property-development company, where the finance, bookkeeping, and closing tables all run through him. He also spent ten years as a developer, writing financial software.
What set Ken apart from most founders is where his curiosity went: straight into the ledgers and the tax code. Rather than hand it off, he took full ownership of his companies' books and tax filings — and he still does both himself today.
That's why Kantivo is designed by someone who actually sits in the books — not a vendor who has never used them.
Ken spent close to thirty years as a QuickBooks Desktop customer. A copy of Desktop Pro ran about $299 (frequently with a $100 discount) and lasted a solid three years. The software rarely changed — but it was rock-solid and easy to budget around.
Then that stability vanished. Intuit moved him to yearly renewals and drove prices up faster than even recent inflation, all for a product that had barely moved. The bigger blow came next: Intuit closed QuickBooks Desktop Pro to new buyers, stopped releasing new editions of it, and kept nudging every user toward QuickBooks Online. Ken keeps a separate set of books for 16 different entities, a few earning just a few hundred dollars a year. "Everyone online" translated to 16 individual online subscriptions, one per company. Run that math and — holy cow. The cost simply didn't work, and the online experience wasn't one he wanted anyway.
His answer was to build the software he'd been wishing for — and to price it so the savings hit on day one:
Beyond any one feature, though, Kantivo is built on something Ken believes with real intensity: a software company should be relentlessly on its customers' side, and shouldn't rest until their requests are answered. Every support message still lands in front of him personally — every question, every idea — and the good ones don't sit in a queue; they get built. His aim is bold on purpose: that the day you make Kantivo your home is the last day you ever look for anything else, because it grows into everything you hoped accounting software could be, and more.
The industry editions are where that belief gets put to the test, and each one traces back to one of just two origins: a working professional in that field walked us through how the job is really done, or we put in days of research until the workaround became visible to us. Not one edition has gone out on a hunch. Two of them called for no research whatsoever — Ken started a construction company, and he still handles the books and the closing table for a property development business, so rebuilding a draw request in a spreadsheet every month and hand-journaling a commission split on closing day are jobs he has personally sat through.
The travel agency edition is the purest example of the first origin, and it reset his thinking about the whole approach. It took shape next to a real host agency with close to three decades on QuickBooks Desktop behind it — and the truth was odder than any quantity of research would have predicted. Each booking required two invoices, the first of them entirely make-believe: a record that existed purely so a report would print correctly, complete with an offsetting line that wiped out its own income to keep the ledger honest. No one sits down and designs that. It builds up, one improvisation at a time, across decades — and then gets repeated several hundred times a year, indefinitely.
Today the booking generates its own commission entry, and the invoice that existed only to please a report has vanished entirely. That is the bar every other edition now gets measured against, and it is why this offer stands permanently: if we built for your trade and missed something, or your industry hasn't been built yet, get in touch and say so. Someone who does the work daily will always beat even the most thorough research, and those conversations land directly on the roadmap. Every industry edition ships with Professional and above — not one of them carries a surcharge.
That conviction is still what steers the roadmap, day in and day out. It sets our scoreboard too: Kantivo becomes a $100 million company when our customers have saved $100 million, not when we have billed it.
