Is there a desktop alternative to QuickBooks Enterprise?

Yes. Desktop options include Sage 50, AccountEdge and Kantivo. Kantivo Enterprise is an annual subscription of $1,680 for up to 30 users and 30 companies, with the rate fixed for 12 years, and it imports QuickBooks Desktop history. Businesses that rely on serial or lot tracking, FIFO costing or in-software payroll are still better served by Enterprise Platinum.

What does QuickBooks Enterprise cost per user?

Enterprise is priced from a single user and rises with each seat. After Intuit's 1 February 2026 increase, one-user annual pricing is roughly $1,703 to $1,873 for Silver, about $2,200 for Gold and about $2,700 for Platinum, with a per-employee monthly fee on Gold and Platinum. Diamond is quoted and billed monthly. Intuit quotes Enterprise through sales, so confirm figures for your seat count.

Will my QuickBooks Enterprise data transfer to Kantivo?

Your lists and full transaction history do. Kantivo reads IIF and CSV exports from QuickBooks Desktop, Enterprise included: accounts, customers, vendors, items and classes first, then history exported in date ranges. Budgets, memorized transactions and custom templates need rebuilding, just as they do when moving to QuickBooks Online.

Does Kantivo include payroll?

Not natively. QuickBooks Enterprise Gold and higher include Enhanced Payroll; Kantivo does not process payroll inside the software. If you already use a separate payroll service, that does not change anything.

Why Enterprise Is on Your Shortlist at All

Almost nobody sets out to buy QuickBooks Enterprise. It becomes the answer by elimination:

Pro Plus and Premier Plus are closed to newcomers. Intuit stopped selling them to new U.S. customers in September 2024. If your subscription lapsed, or you're setting up a new company, Enterprise is the only Desktop edition you can buy.
Renewals got expensive anyway. A one-user Pro Plus renewal went from $999 at the start of 2026 to $1,351 for renewals from 1 October. Once your own edition costs that much, Enterprise stops looking like a big jump.
Your team grew. More people in the file, and Enterprise is where Intuit sends multi-user desktop shops.

For fairness: in August 2026 Intuit withdrew the planned retirement of Desktop 2024, so no support deadline is forcing anyone off Desktop now. The decision is about price and fit, not a countdown.

The Team Price, Not the Sticker Price

Enterprise's headline figure is for one person. The comparison that matters is what your whole team costs:

The Enterprise numbers are approximate one-user annual prices following Intuit's 1 February 2026 increase. Intuit sells Enterprise by quote, so ask for a figure at your actual seat count before comparing. Every line on the Enterprise side grows as the team grows, and on Gold and Platinum as payroll grows too. The Kantivo line doesn't, for the team or for the next 12 years.

There's also a sign of where Intuit's attention is going. Fourlane, a QuickBooks consultancy, reports that from 1 August 2026 Intuit's sales reps are "no longer financially incentivized" to sell Enterprise.

Four things QuickBooks Enterprise does that Kantivo doesn't

Serial numbers, lot tracking, FIFO and bin locations across multiple warehouses (Advanced Inventory, Platinum). Kantivo values stock at weighted average cost and has no serial or lot tracking.
Payroll processed in the product. Enhanced Payroll comes with Gold and above. Kantivo has no native payroll.
Advanced Pricing rules on Platinum, such as price levels by customer, quantity or date range.
A large ecosystem. Decades of add-ons and a deep bench of certified consultants.

Moving Fifteen Years of Enterprise Without Losing Them

The real cost of leaving Enterprise is rarely the licence. It's the history. A clean opening balance is easy; keeping every invoice, bill and payment back to the day you started is what makes year-on-year comparisons and audits possible.

Pick Enterprise if you run serialised or lot-tracked stock across locations, or you want payroll inside your accounting system. Pick Kantivo if your team lives in the accounting itself: invoices, bills, bank reconciliations, reports, classes, several companies, several people. For that team, Enterprise charges per head for depth you won't use. Compare the two over twelve years, because only one of the prices is fixed.
